Al Qaim District is one of the tenth districts in Anbar province, located in the west of Anbar, about 400 km from Baghdad and 320 km from Ramadi the capital of Anbar governorate. The population of the area is composed of IDPRs, Refugees, and the host community, where the majority are living in a poor conditions due to a lack of persistent livelihoods. The district witnessed massive destruction during the armed conflict upon ISIL control of the city.
The potable water provision is one of the affected infrastructure components during the crisis and the military operations to liberate Al-Qaim District.
UNHCR is supporting the supply and installation of 5 RO unitsin the returnee villages. The lack of potable water is one of the major obstacles to the return of the displaced population. The limited access is negatively impacting the sustainability of return to the areas of origin.
As UNHCR attempts to sustain the return and supports the returnees to get access to clean potable water, UNHCR needs to supply 5 RO units in (Al-Rummaneh, Albu-obaid, Al-Bert, al-Zaidyia, and Maaras Eid villages) in Anbar Governorate. This intervention is serving approximately a total population of 2,000 families (10,000 individuals).
There are four main axes included in the project:
a-Digging for the borehole.
b-Construction for building and infrastructure.
c-Supply, install, and operate reverse osmosis unit.
d-Supply and install and operate diesel generator
