The construction of a “state-of-the-art” dam has begun on the outskirts of Erbil. The completion date for the project has been set as November 16th, 2019 with unique techniques being used to reduce costs and construction time.
The Goma-Span dam project is being operated by a local construction company Senk Group in partnership with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), with construction work taking place on Bastura Chai – a tributary of the Great Zab River.
Goma-Span is projected to have a reservoir capacity of 81,000,000 cubic meters of water, with the dam stretching 375 meters in length, with a base width of 70.5 meters and a height of 70 meters.
According to the contract, the budget for he project stands at an estimated $82,000,000 with an additional 3,500,000 added due to adjustments.
