Iraq to Construct New 150,000 Bpd Oil Refinery in Kirkuk

Announcement comes from Oil Minister Thamer Ghadhban during a visit to the city this week

Iraq Oil Minister Thamer Ghadhban has announced the completion of plans for the construction of a new 150,000 bpf refinery in Kirkuk.

The announcement was made as the Oil Minister visited Iraq's northern city on Monday, with Reuters quoting Ghadhban “The ministry has put the final touches on building an investment refinery in Kirkuk with a capacity of 150,000 barrels per day and according to the latest international standards,”

The new refinery will be a key development in a region lacking infrastructure and will also help the region process the expected oil production increases from a number of nearby oilfields. Currently the regions only export mechanism for oil is through the KRG pipeline to Ceyhan in Turkey
