Iraq Discuss Projects for Turkish Reconstruction Loan

Iraq and Turkey look to develop negotiations on projects as part of Turkey's $5 billion pledge for Iraq's reconstruction

Following a pledge of $5 billion in funding from Turkey at last years conference in Kuwait for the reconstruction of Iraq, Iraqi Ambassador to Ankara, Hussain Mahmood Alkhateeb has discussed the possible projects which this funding can be allocated to.

In an interview with the Daily Sabah, Alkhateeb has revealed that the development of infrastructure for water projects, rehabilitation of buildings and services in areas liberated from ISIS and the opening of a border gate between Iraq and Turkey have been assessed as the probable uses for the loan.

Following the initial discussions Alkhateeb has also advised that a Turkish delegation will be visiting Baghdad shortly to discuss the funding options in more detail, with Turkish President Erdogan placing a major emphasis on Iraq improving it's water issues, with the country experiencing water shortages due to a lack of infrastructure and decreasing water levels at its key sources.
