Haider al-Abadi has made a pledge to provide funding for a series of infrastructure projects in Dhi Qar province.
The funds will be provided to complete the rehabilitation of two bridges, two road projects, completion of the Islah water project as well as funding for additional water and sewerage projects and the acceleration of the construction of new schools.
The Iraqi PM also announced that electricity shortages will be boosted with new mobile electricity stations to be installed in the region by the Ministry of Electricity 'as soon as possible'.
A plan has also been outlined by the Industry Ministry which aims to re-open factories in the region in order to provide 'thousands of opportunities for sustainable jobs', as well as releasing additional funding towards health care services and providing a greater share of water from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
The United Nations have supported Abadi's plans.
