The ministry of oil started focusing on the investment projects of the associated gas after the great success in raising the crude oil production which elevated the Iraqi exports.
Mr. Fayadh H. Niema the senior deputy minister of oil opened in Sunday the 14th of August 2016, three projects that can contribute in reducing the associated gas burning in the fields of Bazirgan, Abu Gharb and Fakka in the oil fields of Maysan Oil Company (MOC).
Mr. Niema said that the opening of these projects can be considered as the real start for the investment of the associated gas in Maysan province and the significance of these projects can be concluded in the supply of new gas quantities for the power stations and the reduction of the environmental pollution. He said also that the ministry started with the fields of Bazirgan & Fakka and will include all the oil fields of Maysan in the future which is considered as a good gas producer province.
Mr. Adnan Nooshi the director general of (MOC) said that the gas purification project of Bazirgan with a capacity of (35) MSCF & the project of gas treatment in Abu Gharb & Fakka with a capacity of (70) MSCF, was opened in a record time, in addition to the associated water with the oil treatment project in Bazirgan and the administration building with a capacity of (400) employees which was built by (CNOOC) company for the employees of Maysan fields operation. He said also that these projects will reduce the associated gas burning so that they will treat the environmental problems in the oil fields zones.
Mr. Nooshi said also that these projects are the first step of the gas investment project and the company is working on other similar projects which are going to ensure more quantities of gas can be estimated with (250) MSCF.
Mr. Assim Jihad the spokesman of the ministry of oil said that the ministry have accomplished some significant development projects to invest the associated gas in the fields of Bazirgan, Fakka and Abu Gharb in Maysan. He said that these projects will contribute in reducing the associated gas burning.
Mr. Jihad said also that these projects will provide (10) MSCF per day to operate the (60) Megawatts gas generation unit in Bazirgan in order to supply the national network with power. And this amount is supposed to be elevated after the operation of new units with the same capacity
