Iraq’s border with Jordan will soon open in the Jordanian town of Rutbah, 200LM from Baghdad. It will likely restart the lucrative trade partnership that generated several billion dollars, yet was just under $700US million when the border closed.
Safia al-Souhail, Iraq’s ambassador to Jordan, suggested all that was left to finalise was the safety of the region surrounding the border. A spokesperson from the Jordanian government added, “We hope that the crossing will open sooner than later, because it is of crucial benefit to both Iraq and Jordan.”
