Mr. Fayadh H. Niema the senior deputy minister of oil opened in Wednesday the 10th of February, the units of the associated gas treatment with capacity of 70 MSCF.
Mr. Niema said that the establishment of these units is considered as the first stage for making use of this type of gas to generate power especially in the Rumaila gas powered station.
He said also that the ministry is aiming to stop wasting this energy by building more gas treatment units in order to make use of it in generating power and using it in the petrochemicals sector as well as the economic sector in general.
Mr. Hamid Y. Salih the deputy minister for gas affairs said that the units of gas treatment & insulation provided more than 50% of the associated gas which was burnt in the past.
Mr. Ahmed Atallah the manager of Majnoon oil field said that the first stage of the project was done by cooperation with Shell Company in order to increase the production of gas and reduce its burning.
Mr. Assim Jihad the spokesman of the ministry said that the ministry is working hard to make use of all production capacities to raise the outcome and raise the rate of support for the Iraqi state treasury. He said also that this project will enable Iraq to be a regional & global producer of gas.
