Mr. Adil Abd Al-Mahdi the minister of oil declared for the accomplishment of the first stage for investing the associated gas in Majnoon oil field in the south of Iraq.
The project was awarded to a consortium managed by Shell Company and supposed to be opened in February the 10th.
The minister of oil said that the first stage of the project included the construction of the treatment units of extracting the gas, treating it and pumping it through the pipelines to the electric station in Rumaila.
Mr. Abd Al-Mahdi said that the invested quantities of the first stage reached 70 million standard cubic feet (MSCF) per day which will contribute in generating 300 megawatts per day.
Mr. Hamid Y. Salih the deputy minister for gas said that the ministry have achieved recently a big progress in investing the associated gas of the oil processing according to the plan to raise the national production of gas and reduce the burnt gas to 45% after finishing the projects such as the (IBC) gas treatment units in order to invest 110 (MSCF) / day from the west Qurna 1 field, as well as finishing the gas treatment units in Majnoon field within the second licensing round in order to invest 70 (MSFC) which raised the amount of the invested gas in these fields and the other fields to 1100 (MSCF) / day, and the work is going on to invest the remaining gas quantities.
Mr. Assim Jihad the spokesman of the ministry said the ministry is working on according to the plan to invest the associated gas in all the oil fields, and these quantities of gas are supposed to assist the electric stations and the petrochemicals & fertilizer factories with enough operating energy, in addition to the liquefied gas for the domestic consumption which will provide more outcome to the federal reserve and reduce the spending on the importation. It also reduces the pollution which is caused by burning the associated gas.
