Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, announced on Monday that Iraq succeeded in adding six billion barrels of oil and 32 billion cubic feet of hydrocarbons to the national reserve, according to a statement issued by the Oil Ministry.
The statement elaborated that Abdul-Ghani visited the Oil Exploration Company (OEC), where he stressed the importance of the oil exploration sector in enhancing the oil reserves of Iraq.
“The OEC’s seismic teams intensified their activities during the past period in the western desert of Anbar governorate, as well as in some areas in the governorates of Nineveh, Najaf, Muthanna and Dhi Qar, to carry out seismic surveys to map geological structures beneath the earth’s surface and they came up with great results,” Abdul-Ghani stated.
The Iraqi Oil Minister indicated the importance of transforming the results of seismic surveys into a fixed reserve that enhances Iraq’s position in terms of sustaining and increasing oil and gas production.
OEC’s Director, Ali Jassim, said that the Oil Minister listened to an explanation of the company’s plans and programs, and attended a workshop on the promising gas exploration blocks, and the future visions for the optimal investment of hydrocarbons.
Jassim stressed that the seismic teams of the company adopt the latest technologies and use advanced equipment in surveying the areas where oil and gas are expected to be produced.
