Iraq to Build Solar Power Pumps Factory

Iraq's State Company for Electric and Electronic Industries plans to establish a factory for solar power pumps and electric transformers.

In light of recent government measures to promote solar power in Iraq, the country's State Company for Electric and Electronic Industries now aims to establish a factory for solar power pumps and electrical transformers.

According to Sufian Al-Jabbouri, director-general of the state-owned enterprise, the transition to renewable energy in the local sector is crucial since the company wants to rely on environmentally friendly machinery in the medium and long term.

Al-Jabbouri also mentioned that the transition to renewable energy would include the establishment of production lines for electrical transformers and solar power pumps, noting that these strategies will be implemented progressively across the company's factories.

The factory plan was made in response to the Iraqi government's recent steps to promote solar energy use. These include agreements with foreign firms for large-scale solar projects, as well as loans to citizens for the purchase of solar power systems.

Iraq announced three significant solar projects last year: a 1-GWp solar complex with TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTE), a 1-GW contract with Masdar, the UAE's renewable energy firm, and 750 MW of solar capacity to be implemented by China's state-owned enterprise Power Construction Corp of China (Power China).
