UAE Willing to Work with Russia Concerning Energy Security

The UAE is willing to cooperate with Russia to improve global energy security.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is eager to work with Russia to improve global energy security, as per the UAE foreign minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan's statement on Moscow, Thursday.

As consumers hunt for supplies to replace Russian oil, the invasion of Ukraine has prompted a slew of Western sanctions and disturbed global energy markets, putting a spotlight on Gulf energy exporters like the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The Emirati Minister stressed the importance of maintaining the stability of energy and food markets, at a televised joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

Sheikh Abdullah stated that they applaud any efforts at mediation in the Ukraine situation and that the UAE is willing to engage with the parties to improve prospects for a peaceful resolution.

Just as an agreement came close at Vienna talks this week, Russia appeared to have moved off its previous opinion that Western sanctions were an obstacle to salvaging the 2015 nuclear bargain between world powers and Iran.

While the Gulf Arab governments have expressed support for the discussions, they have also encouraged international powers to address regional concerns about Iran's ballistic missile program and network of proxies, which includes Yemen, Iraq, and Lebanon.
