In a bid to meet the district's growing need for electricity, the Iraqi governorate of Duhok signed an agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to set up a solar energy park.
Duhok has been dependent on Iran for its electricity and this move is in response to the pressure the governorate has been getting to diversify its energy sources. It is also in line with their plan for sustainable energy drafted two years ago which includes their pledge to cut down on their greenhouse gas emission by 2030.
