In the first four months of the Iraninan calendar year (March 21 - July 21) approximately 630,000 tons of goods, valued at $404 million were exported from Iran to Iraq through neighboring border of Mehran. Director of General IIam Customs Office Rouhollah Gholami, said on August 18.
As a main transactional border between the two countries Gholami emphasizes the daily export of 1,000 trucks with goods such as fruits and vegetables, construction materials, glass and evaporative coolers, plastic and rubber materials and auto spare parts all make up the 630,000 tons of goods.
He also stated, “with the coordination made in this regard, the problem in the field of paying toll and duties for exporting goods in the border is seriously being followed up between provincial and Iraqi officials… the volume of goods exported to Iraq through Mehran border has registered 26 and 43 percent hike in terms of value and weight respectively as compared to the last year’s corresponding period.”
