Following a meeting with Iraq President Barham Salih this week, Lebanon parliament speaker Nabih Berri has announced the country's intention to reinstate and restore an oil pipeline between the two countries.
Speaking to reporters following his visit to Iraq, Berri commented “We discussed Lebanese investment in Iraq and especially the subject of the oil installations between Kirkuk and Tripoli, a topic we must return to.".
The discussions follow an agreement signed by Lebanon in January with Russian oil company Rosneft for the rehabilitation and operation of oil storage facilities in Tripoli, northern Lebanon.
Berri has suggested Iraq should send a minister to Lebanon for further discussions to advance the project and strengthen ties between the two countries.
