Russia Discusses Investment Opportunities With Iraq

Business ties between the two countries discussed at this weeks Mediterranean Dialogues forum in Rome

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has met with Iraq's Foreign Minister Mohamed al-Hakim and new President Barham Salih to discuss relations between the two countries.

The meeting, which took place as politicians gathered for the Mediterranean Dialogues forum in Rome, included discussions on increasing business ties between Russian companies operating in Iraq. 

Russian oil major's Rosneft, Lukoil and Gazprom all have significant business ties in the country, with Rosneft holding an ownership of the Kurdistan oil pipeline which has recently resumed exporting Kirkuk oil to Turkey.

At the event, President Salih also announced that Iraq has plans to create a reconstruction agency in order to develop and manage international investment for major infrastructure projects required as part of the rebuilding of the country.
