Biggest military base turned into internal airport in Iraq

It is expected that the first internal flight will be operated within the coming few weeks, Governor Yehya al-Nassiri stated.

Thi Qar/  Iraq TradeLink: Thi Qar local administration announced operating internal air flights from Nassiriya civil airport, which shall be registered within the airports operating in the country.

It is expected that the first internal flight will be operated within the coming few weeks, Governor Yehya al-Nassiri stated.

During the past few months, the inauguration of this new airport was delayed for three times.
Iraqi Transport Minister Kadhim al-Hamami announced the opening on 29 September, 2016, but the delay was due to the front designs of the airport building.

A police station shall be made in  the airport for security measures, local police sources reported.

On 5 March, 2012, Baghdad approved joint usage of the biggest military air base (Ali Bin Abi Talib Air Base) to be both military and civilian airport.

It was agreed to build the new airport on a space of 20.000 square meters
