The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has recently reported the possibility of Mosul Dam collapsing is even higher than originally reported. An estimated 500,000 people could be affected if Mosul Dam were to collapse.
The base of the dam was been built on earth that was continually eroded by water since its construction in 1985. Construction crew are currently reinforcing the foundation, knows as grouting.
The only option is to build a new dam which could cost upwards $2billion. Trevi Construction group is only likely to provide temporary solution for the stability of the dam.
