President Salih Visits UK as Government Guest

Iraqi President received by UK PM on Tuesday to discuss bilateral cooperation

Iraqi President Barham Salih has visited the UK as a Guest of Government and was received in Downing Street by outgoing UK PM Theresa May on Tuesday.

Discussions between the two covered security cooperation and the need for collaboration to help deescalate the regions growing tensions, whilst May reaffirmed the UK's commitment to supporting Iraqi stability and economic prosperity.

The two nations are also looking to expand bilateral trade, which UK ambassador Jon Wilks revealed is increasing this year. 

Salih's visit is historical being the first official Iraqi state visitor to meet the Queen since 1956.
